Granville Island Brewery is one of the few breweries that are within commuting distance of downtown Vancouver.  As a result of their convenient location, these folks supply many downtown establishments with great brews.

As an extra selling point, these folks ship directly to areas all over the lower mainland from West Vancouver all the way to Richmond.  Alternatively, if you’re in need of party beverages, the brewery also accepts curbside pick-up orders for all available beers.

On the whole, this establishment churns out various ales, pilsners, and lagers that center on floral or fruit-based flavors.  The majority of their brews are well-suited to those who enjoy light flavors.

Another bonus of visiting the Granville Island Brewery is the fact that patrons can rent out their taproom for functions and celebrations.  Naturally, this rental comes with a fee, but guests are also provided with an entertainment package of their choice.

Pros

  • Taproom can be rented for events
  • Offers floral and fruity beers
  • Delivers to a wide area

Cons

  • Less suited to those who enjoy classic flavors

Customer Reviews

The Granville Island Breweries has a knack for wowing patrons with their excellent facility tours:

“Was very excited to visit this brewery. Didn’t disappoint whatsoever. Their beers taste amazing and can accommodate any beer drinkers out there. I would suggest getting their 4 for 10.25 flights. Server was great. Beware though as it can get very busy and there was a lineup the entire time so expect to wait for a bit at least. You can also sit outside on the patio if you’d like. We sat inside and it was great. Highly recommend this place if you are on the Granville island” – Kanwar R.

“Great local brewery. Waited outside 5 min— line moved quickly.

Try a flight to get a range of the great brews they have going on. Delightfully surprised by their Mango Hibiscus Sour. Chips, guac & salsa so fresh. Excellent service, so attentive. They ran out of the donut, but the server came out and let us know before we left, which made my partner super pleased! A must-try on Granville Island.” – Deb A.

Customer Reviews

These patrons were extremely pleased with their 33 Acres experience:

“Great brunch place to go to on the weekends. I loved their avocado tomato Benny and cortado. Great place for a cup of coffee. Their beers are also on point!” – Gladys L.

“Nice brewery with a variety of beers to try out. One side has they regular beers and the other side has all their seasonal beers. They also have a patio section as well now which is new. Not much for food so it’s more of a place to try different beers and not for dinner. Worth coming to for the variety of beers and atmosphere.” – Gary O.

Among our entries, Parallel 49 is definitely one of the most extravagant breweries in Vancouver.  As proof of this, their canned beers are adorned with wild colors, wacky cartoons, and intricate works of art.

In a way, these eye-catching designs are also indicative of the brewery’s unique taste in flavors and notes.  Because of this, it’s not uncommon to see mixes of spices, fruits, and hops in their beer including combinations like cinnamon and citrus, or grapefruit and anise.

If your beer craving has left you with an appetite, Parallel 49 has you covered too with their food truck.  You can order basic fries and poutines to share with friends, or go for something heavier like a burger or grilled chicken sandwich.

To say that these folks take creative liberties when brewing is a bit of an understatement.  With over 60 different beers on tap at any given time, there’s a large chance that you’ll find at least one beer that scratches your itch for ale and hops.

Pros

  • Has over 60 different offerings of beer
  • Sells growler glasses in-house
  • All beer is sold in cans

Cons

With great beer and delicious burgers, these folks have earned a ton of great reviews:

“Burgers were epic! There’s a ton of amazing beers to try as well as sweet drinks. My wife loved the fruit punch vodka muddler. Staff were all super chill as was the vibe of the whole place. We’ll definitely be back!” – Patrick M.

“The beer selection here is insane. We were able to get two flights and not have a single overlapping beer…and we still had more to choose from! We also got the loaded fries special which was a nacho style….and it was crazy good! Will be coming back again for food and drinks!” – Colton P.

Brassneck is significantly smaller than most other breweries in the lower mainland.  While this does limit the amount of beer they can produce, it allows them to focus more effort on crafting high-quality products.

To help speed things along just a little bit, this brewery uses 14 different fermenters, which allows them to cycle off different streams of alcohol in rapid succession.  Along with this, they also have a special oak fermenter that imparts a distinct flavor to the beer.

As a means of maximizing space, the brewery’s designers built their taproom and beer store right into the production floor.  This means that visitors can enjoy the entire brewing process while they shop for beer or sample new products.

Because of the excellent quality and low quantity of their brews, Brassneck’s beer often sells out within the day.  If you intend to grab a pack to take home, it’s best to visit the brewery as soon as their doors open.

Pros

  • Uses a special oak fermenter
  • Has brewed over 120 different flavors
  • Offers “milkshake” cream stouts

Cons

  • Beer often sells out quickly

Customer Reviews

While their small space isn’t great for gatherings, many beer connoisseurs have come to call this place a second home:

“Great staff in a very low-key environment. I opted for the four-beer flight that was worth every penny! I don’t think any beer enthusiast would be disappointed with Brassneck Brewery. I did not try the food, but everyone around me seemed to enjoy what they were eating!” – James M.

“A fine selection of beers with some unique rotating brews. If you can get their raspberry changeling, it’s very good! Also they usually stick a miso chocolate chip cookie that is excellent.” – Gregory C.

Strange Fellows Brewing is responsible for making great beers with a wide variety of flavors.

These folks proudly brew standard beers that carry a strong malt or hops flavor. But, along with this, they also craft more unique beers with flavors like chocolate, caramel, and fruit.

This brewery’s taproom is home to 12 distinct alcoholic drinks, two of which are actually in-house wines made using the Saignee method.  For those who are unfamiliar, this method of winemaking helps bring out stronger fruity notes.

If you intend to pay a visit to Strange Fellow Brewing, you’ll want to show up quite early since there is a limit of 50 visitors at any given time.  Along with this, parties with more than 6 people will not be entertained so it’s important to restrict your party size accordingly.

As is the case with many other breweries, these folks serve a handful of dishes to pair nicely with an ice-cold pint.  Their sub sandwiches in particular have gained some renown as they are great partners for carbonated drinks in general.

Pros

  • Serves both modern & traditional brews
  • Makes great sub sandwiches
  • Also offers in-house wines

Cons

  • Limited capacity
  • Doesn’t allow big parties (over 6 members)
  • Alcohol delivery carries a fee

Customer Reviews

Thanks to their blend of traditional and unique flavor notes, Strange Fellows has left a great impression on many patrons:

“Nice brewery, they have good beer on draught, but what I really like is that you can order by the glass from their bottle selection which is very nice and they are delicious!!” – Max C.

“One of the alltime great beers places in the city. Beers are consistently exceptional and innovative – particularly if you’re in to mixed fermentation and Belgian styles. The art gallery on the side is an amazing concept and snacks/food trucks outside are always excellent. Truly know their stuff and always happy to have their beer here or delivered or out and about.” – Donny B.

Here’s a review of Deep Cove Brewers and Distillers:

“What a beautiful brewery. Great seating inside and out. Almost feels like you’re in the forest. The beer: Method Pale Ale is simply spectacular. Smooth and full of flavor. Pineapple Mango Sour is full of fruit flavor with that lovely sour twist. Leaves you wanting your next sip. Definitely a must stop on any brewery stop

“I like coming here after mountain biking at Seymour for the spicy chicken sandwich. It’s also one of the only breweries that doesn’t disappoint with their beers. The raspberry Saison is one of my favorites.

Not only is the beer great but everyone I’ve met from Off The Rail has been awesome too!” – Kristine Dyk

“@offtherailbeer is killing it with their branding…I love the design of this can but the beer is even better! This Raising Haze Eastern IPA should absolutely be on your list if you haven’t tried it. Yes it’s a hazy, but this one sets itself apart. Really well balanced and sessionable…this beer is on my favs list!” – Denny Dumas

Customer Reviews

“We recently gave TCB a try hoping to save a bit of money on decent white table wine. They have wines starting at 4 weeks for the lowest price, then 5, 6, and 8 week wines as well. We decided to start with a 4 week Pinot Grigio which cost $125 for 23 litres (30 bottles!), less than half the price at a government liquor store for their cheapest plonk. Because of the price I didn’t have huge expectations about the quality, but we thought we’d start there as a baseline and work our way up if it was decent. Fast forward 4 weeks and we went in to bottle our wine, which you can sip on as you bottle, and decent it was! The process is very easy and they patiently walk you through it, showing you how to use the bottle sanitizer, setting up your carboy and showing you the equipment. They have parking in the rear, with a small area to load your car in the front. From start to finish it took a half hour, and now we’re at home deciding where to store all of our wine! We’ll definitely be back to try some of the more premium wines. Highly recommend.”

“Great service and great value for money. Huge selection of beer at a very reasonable cost. The guys running the place are very friendly and make the whole bottling experience a joy.”

Customer Reviews

Here are some reviews from their clients:

“ I have been to the tasting room on Lonsdale Ave many times as I live just a 2 minute walk away and I have to say my last time there wasn’t great. Was meeting up with friends and we were happy to wait the 30 minutes for a table, but out of no where when we were ready to order another drink, we were told very suddenly that there was a 2 hour time limit on seating. As we all work in the industry around Vancouver, we are more than understanding with this rule as the places we work at our selves are implementing this rule as well, but we were never told of this before we sat down so felt very out of the blue. As well as coming out of no where, there were three free tables and didn’t see anyone waiting for a table near us.

This for sure isn’t a reason to not return as the staff are incredible, the wings are great, and every other time I’ve never had a bad experience there before this, just thought I would bring it up so that you can let tables know when they are sitting down of the rules.”

“We’ve been twice since they opened the bridge deck and they have awesome food and amazing service. The burger is one of the best I’ve ever had 🙂”

R&B Brewing Co. is a brewing company that specializes in crafting ales and lagers among many other liquor selections. They are among the pioneers of said business in Vancouver and are considered to be among the first microbrewers in the area since 1997.

They are easy to locate and access since they are near Main Street and are ultimately identifiable due to their hip music mix of R&B and rock. Their growler station and taproom are also mostly available all week for a good number of hours for clients to enjoy.

The company is comprised of experts in the field that can help aid clients who are looking for a particular blend of lagers and ales. Trying to keep things fun yet showcases the local taste, their blends are known to be authentic and lean toward artisan tastes.

Aside from their selection of ales, they also offer pizza to accompany their drinks menu which could be slightly limiting for clients looking for a different selection of food. Each of their menus is easily available in DoorDash, UberEats, and SkipTheDish for more convenience when it comes to delivery.

They are highly commended for their setting and ambiance that greatly helps clients get in the mood to enjoy their blends and the snacks that they offer as well. However, some reviews state that they could have more improvement when it comes to customer service and menu selection.

Luppolo Brewing is a local brewery that is currently geared to deliver quality beer blends despite the difficult pandemic situation. Their ambiance and beer quality are balanced so that clients will not only find themselves wanting more of the drinks but also the company.

We find their newly extended patio a refreshing takes on a brewery and could provide a fresh and unique experience for clients looking for a new drink at an open and highly sociable place.

Apart from this, they also offer a food menu to complement their beers so that clients can further enjoy their tasting and drinking experience with them while also sending a tingle down their tastebuds as well.

What we think sets them apart from other breweries is their Italian-cuisine-centered approach when it comes to their food that brings about a sense of crispiness and a new class in drinking their blends.

Overall, we highly recommend this brewery due not only for their quality and delectable blends and food but also for an inclusive community that is centered and grounded on a family that enhances their customers’ stay with them every single time.

Mark James Group is an establishment that is home to BC’s craft breweries and distillery restaurants. Founded back in 1976, they have since then made a name for themselves for their notable food and drink combination along with overall accommodating customer service.

We find that their locations are widespread and accessible to people living in the area as their breweries and restaurants are in places such as Yaletown and Whistler.

Note however, they might open slightly later in the noon and night and that should clients wish to try all of three pubs at once – could need additional time as they aren’t exactly in the same area.

Along with that, we think that their website is simple yet contains adequate information regarding the distinct services and menus that their restaurants have to offer as well.

In addition, we find it impressive that are able to employ brew masters to assist clients in finding the beer blend that they are into and also ensure that what they make are of the finest quality and nothing short of the sophisticated flavor.

Pros

  • Experienced staff
  • Various locations
  • Offers distinct and unique drinking and dining atmospheres

Cons

  • Menus are not readily available
