The 6 Best Gas Stations in Vancouver

When it comes to late-night snack runs or road trip stopovers, service stations are second to none.  These places are also great meeting sites for motorcycle clubs and groups of weekend warriors prior to setting out on the open road.

To make sure you get the best services and snacks, we’ve prepared a list of the best gas stations in Vancouver.  We’ve supplemented this list with a mix of reviews, pros & cons, FAQs, and other helpful information.

How Much Do Gas Stations Cost in Vancouver?

Whether you’re spending on fuel for your car or yourself, it would be wise to set aside a small budget for your trip to the corner gas station.  This cost guide should do a decent job of helping you prepare that budget:

Many of these stations sell grocery items as well as various snacks and beverages. So, if you intend to buy more than just fuel, be sure to bring extra cash.

As a rule of thumb, a full tank of gas and some snacks would probably be around $180 to $190. That would be around $170 for the gas and an extra $10 to $20 for food, drinks, and a grocery item or two.

Remember, all of these prices are correct at the time of writing. Given the fluctuations in petrol prices, it’s entirely possible for these prices to have changed by the time this article is published.

Still, they’re pretty good indicators of how the stations will stack up against each other even in the event of global petrol prices changing.

Esso is one of the few gas stations conveniently located in the heart of downtown Vancouver.  To cater to the large number of consumers living in the metro area, this station has 12 pumps in total.

Each pump can dispense regular, midgrade, or premium fuel and customers can choose to pay at the pump or inside.

If you have extra time before your commute or you just want to take a load off, there’s a Tim Hortons waiting just within the station store.

This smaller cafe-style branch serves everything that a standard Tim Hortons would and the only downside is the lack of seating during peak hours.  Nevertheless, it’s still a great option for delicious on-the-go brews.

Note that if you’re the proud owner of a diesel-fueled car, then you’ll have to choose another place to fill up at since this particular Esso station doesn’t carry diesel.  But, when it comes to stuff like propane tanks, this station has you covered with a quick, convenient swapping service.

Pros

  • Located in downtown Vancouver
  • Houses a Tim Hortons cafe
  • Has 12 individual pumps

Cons

  • Doesn’t carry diesel fuel
  • Can get packed during peak hours

Customer Reviews

Despite not carrying diesel, this station is still a hit with many Vancouverites living in the downtown area:

“Excellent gas station. Always can choose from regular (87), plus (89), and premium (91) gas. I love pumping up at this esso because it’s the only gas station left downtown (and I live a few blocks away). They also accept credit card and have a nice selection of soda and snacks. You can even take a piss in their washroom, just have to ask for the key from the cashier.” – Soroush B.

“Kind people and good service at both the gas station and the Tim Hortons inside. I enjoy coming here and feel very welcome. It’s right near my work, so the fact it is open 24/7 helps with my night job, as I can pick up a snack and coffee at any time!” – Zach T.

Many East Vancouverites will be happy to know that the Super Save Gas Station on 12th avenue offers some of the lowest fuel prices around.  With a premium fuel price of $1.83 per liter at the time of writing, this place sells premium fuel cheaper than midgrade gas at many other stations.

As a result, this particular service station can be a great option for those who want to save on gas expenses.  Along with this, the station also offers diesel fuels.

Of course, nothing is perfect, and this station isn’t without its downsides and shortcomings.  As it’s a smaller gas station, these folks have only 8 pumps in total – so it can be tough to fill up quickly late in the evening.

In addition to this, the Super Save Gas Station doesn’t have too much to offer in terms of available food and drinks.  But, taking the extremely low fuel prices into account, many people would say the tradeoff is well worth it.

Pros

  • Extremely low fuel prices
  • Offers diesel fuel
  • Has a convenient self-service car vacuum

Cons

  • Limited food and drinks available

Customer Reviews

With some of the best gas prices in the Lower Mainland, it’s easy to see why this station is so popular:

“Great service, lots of parking. Free air ! Small convenience store but have vending machines for drinks. Bathrooms available along with propane exchange program” – P. N.

“Repeatedly has the best prices (that I see) in the Lower mainland. The kiosk has a few items like cigarettes, chocolate bars and chips, but very limited. Yes it has a washroom. (not sure if open atm)” – Paul C.

Petro-Canada is one of the largest gas station chains in Vancouver with a branch count on par with the likes of Shell and Esso.  As such, these folks offer a wide variety of fueling options.

Now while this particular branch may not offer diesel fuel, it more than makes up for it by having an electric vehicle charging station.  This place’s charging station in particular is able to provide both level 2 and level 3 charging options.

In layman’s terms, that means this station can charge standard electric vehicles and also offer supercharging for more high-end products like Teslas.  While you wait for your vehicle to charge, you can pop into the station’s convenience store for snacks.

These folks carry your standard Slurpees, coffee, and candy bars so you can stay full and refreshed whilst you chat with other Tesla owners.  If you’re lucky, you may even catch a glimpse of a superbike or two since this place is frequented by many motorcycle groups.

Pros

  • Offers electric vehicle charging
  • Rarely get crowded
  • Decent gas prices

Cons

  • Limited selection of foods and snacks

Since it’s right next to the Vancouver International Airport, this place is a perfect spot to stock up on snacks and drinks before a long road trip into the Lower Mainland.  With a variety of fuel offerings, this station can cater to a wide variety of vehicles.

Along with your run-of-the-mill gas and diesel fuels, this station also offers hydrogen fuel for less common vehicles.  Thanks to this unique feature, this station is one of the few places where hydrogen car owners can top up their cars’ reserves.

As an added convenience, customers can choose to pay through their Shell easy pay app or card.  This eliminates the need for cash transactions and allows patrons to show up, fuel up, and pay up in a short amount of time.

If you’re just stepping out for groceries, you’ll be happy to know that this place also offers canned goods, milk by the gallon, 12-packs of bottled water, and many other pantry staples. It’s pretty hard to beat for convenience.

While it may not be as far-reaching as other gas stations, HUSKY is still nothing to scoff at.  These folks offer all the products and amenities you can expect from a standard station and they also throw in some welcome additions.

One such addition is the presence of ethanol fuel in conjunction with other standard offerings like gas and diesel.  This can be especially handy if you’re riding around in a car that runs ethanol since the fuel isn’t all too common in Vancouver.

Along with this, the station’s convenience store is kept fully stocked with a wide variety of soft drinks, energy drinks, and coffee.  HUSKY also has a special rewards program where clients can earn points from in-store purchases.

In turn, these points can be put into saving money on fuel and other in-store products.  If you’ve got extra time to kill, you can fix your tire pressure or do a quick interior cleaning with the station’s air pump and car vacuum.
