Blue Guitar Studio is a music school that specialises in guitar, drums, and bass lessons for all ages and levels, from beginner to advanced. They also offer children’s lessons, adult guitar lessons, and group music lessons.

First, we love that their studio’s lesson rooms feature sound panelling, digital technology, and the instrument you need. They’re fully equipped to cater to your goals.

On top of that, you can learn how to play the guitar in the comfort of your home, with the same standard of learning in their studio. They now offer online guitar and bass lessons through Zoom, FaceTime, and Skype and can provide video recordings.

On the other hand, they only have 4 instructors as of now. This might be a drawback if there are many students enrolled here along with you because of the challenges in scheduling.

We like that all their instructors are professional musicians who have post-secondary degrees in music. In fact, they’ve been invited to host clinics in colleges and high schools.

With their 15 years of experience, we know that they can help you develop new techniques and improve your skills. Their lessons are customized and individualized for each student to suit their style, level, and goals.

Blue Guitar Studio offers lessons that consist of theory, exercises, and fun song-based learning. They cater to all styles and genres of music, such as jazz, sing-along campfire songs, classical musical recital, or a rock gig.

It’s the go-to choice whether you want to be the next big rock star or you simply want to learn how to strum songs in a campfire.

Pros

  • Individualized lessons
  • Flexible with schedule
  • Fun, engaging, and accessible lessons
  • Relevant lessons tailored for each student

Cons

  • Has few instructors

Horizon School of Music’s lessons covers all genres of music and all types of guitars, for all skillsets. They pair their students with the right and best-matched teacher from their team of highly-skilled instructors.

They have 26 teachers who are ready and equipped to teach not only guitar but also bass, ukulele, and piano among others.

One of the things we love about Horizon School of Music is that they’ve attended to 500 students and they’ve catered to students in 5 different countries.

We talked to their present and past students and they’ve testified that they learned so much from them, even in a short period.

What’s great about Horizon School of Music is that they’re very flexible with scheduling online lessons. They offer stress-free scheduling, without any commitment or contract, and without getting locked into the same allotted time.

So if you never had the chance before to attend guitar classes, now’s your chance to try it because of the scheduling freedom that Horizon School of Music gives.

We also love how their studio has a warm vibe and it’s a safe space with plenty of natural light. However, you can also attend classes wherever you are, as they have remote tutorials through online chat platforms like Zoom or FaceTime.

Just one thing we noticed is that they don’t accept walk-ins. They require an appointment if you want to visit their studio. And they’re closed on Sundays as well.

With pretty standard fees, Horizon School of Music also provides their students with worksheets which assist in discussing the challenges they face and with resources to students where they can track their progress.

Pros

  • Flexible and stress-free scheduling
  • Has several teachers

Cons

  • Visits by appointment only
  • Closed on Sundays

Cole McBride of Cole’s Guitar Lessons offers different guitar curricula per beginner, intermediate, advanced students. Lessons can be taught at Cole’s studio, at your home, or online through Skype.

The first thing we like about Cole’s Guitar Lessons is that there’s a free trial and consultation before you enroll so you can meet the teacher before you decide.

Also, there are group lessons available if you’re in the mood to share a session with other guitar students. Cole even puts up a band among his students.

Enrolling here is perfect for those who want to learn directly from an expert. We value that Cole has over 30 years of experience in the music industry and he has well-rounded expertise with different genres like rock, blues, and experimental jazz.

However, only Cole himself holds the classes. If there are several students enrolled at a time, this might be a disadvantage because scheduling might be tough.

Also, Cole\’s Guitar Lessons hold online sessions that are held on a limited platform. In fact, online sessions are held via Skype only.

Now, do take note, Cole\’s Guitar Lessons only teaches students who are at least 5 years old. So if you\’re looking for a music teacher for your toddler or preschooler, then this isn\’t the best place for you.

Despite this, his students also testified that his classes are positive and friendly, and especially fun even for kids.

One factor that we think is noteworthy is Cole’s teaching approach because he provides students with organized lesson plans cutomized to the student’s goals.

Likewise, he also adapts his teaching style to the student\’s learning style, and he teaches the way students want to play and enjoy playing.

What sets apart Cole’s Guitar Lessons is that it integrates contemporary and traditional musical concepts in his lessons. He also teaches acoustic, electric, and nylon-stringed guitars. We think that these lessons will lead to professional and world-class musicianship.

Pros

  • Acoustic and electric guitar lessons available
  • Provides free trial lesson and consultation
  • Offers group classes

Cons

  • Only one instructor
  • Limited online platform

Blue Morris Guitar Lessons will aid anyone who wants to learn how to play the acoustic or electric guitar, no matter the age and level.

Blue Morris specializes in teaching the folk, rock, blues, and country genres, whether you\’re a beginner or in the immediate level. This is where you should enroll if you enjoy these genres; but if not, then you might want to reconsider.

With over a decade of experience teaching guitar lessons, we value that Blue also has over 30 years of experience in playing the guitar.

There are in-person and online classes in Blue Morris Guitar Lessons. We love that his lessons are student-focused – each lesson is customized based on ability so that students can learn faster and achieve their goals.

Blue also gives the students the chance to learn how to play on guitar the songs they love. We think this approach helps students enjoy their guitar lessons so they don’t just practice music they dislike.

On the other hand, Blue Morris Guitar Lessons might have the tendency to focus on getting students to play the guitar as fast as possible. This can be advantageous if you know the basics already but perhaps not for beginners.

Rufus Guitar Shop offers guitar lessons in both their branches in Vancouver for all ages and levels. They have a roster of highly-qualified instructors who teach a variety of musical styles.

In addition to this, their instructors are practicing musicians who offer a range of musical styles like folk, bluegrass, rock, to name a few.

If you’re interested in learning how to play different types of guitars, Rufus Guitar Shop is a great option, in our opinion. They also have lessons on classical, electric, and bass guitars.

At reasonable rates, they offer different options for lessons: drop-in, weekly, and online. They have different instructors for the online classes and per branch.

Drop-in lessons are billed per half-hour and booked by availability. Weekly lessons are paid by calendar month on the first lesson of the month.

After registration, you’ll be on the schedule indefinitely or until there’s a proper notice to discontinue lessons.

However, we think that they lack flexibility in the schedule of lessons. Their instructors have designated days when they’re only available. And if you’re unable to attend the weekly lessons, you need to send a 48-hour notice.

Finally, they can lend you instruments if you’re unable to bring yours during in-person lessons. But this is not applicable with online lessons.

Pros

  • Guitar lessons are available in their 2 branches
  • Designated instructors per branch and online

Cons

  • Instructors have different availability
  • Not much flexible in scheduling

Customer Reviews

Here are a few reviews from their clients:

\”John has been an outstanding guitar teacher for my 13 year old son Ethan these past 5 years. His tremendous musical knowledge and professionalism has not only allowed Ethan to read musical notes and chords but to also play classical, flamenco and popular music. John has always tailored his lessons based on what Ethan wants to learn. He is very patient, friendly and encouraging. I would highly recommend John to anyone who is looking to learn a lot in a short amount of time.\” -Chris

\”John\’s been an amazing guitar teacher for my 10 year old son. In a few months, he\’s gone from an absolute beginner to being able to confidently play chords and melodies with different techniques and strumming patterns. John is consistently patient and encouraging, and I appreciate his focus on developing good habits while keeping the lessons upbeat and fun.\” -Mo

\”I first started learning guitar with John around 2013, at the time I was taking my RCM level 6 exam and John’s teachings really helped me through the exam. Over the course of these two years, I have learned a great deal with John on not only how to play guitar, but also how to play musically. He breaks down the music and explains it in a way that makes you understand the composers intentions on how the piece is played, at the same time incorporating his own style and yours. He is a teacher that believes in his students and puts in a great deal of effort to not only teach music, but making his student enjoy music. I have now passed RCM level 8.\” -Karin

Beethoven At Home is a center that provides clients with a wide range of music lessons ever since its founding back in 2007. Accommodating various instruments such as guitar, piano, cello, and bass among others, they currently hold lessons in areas such as Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal among other surrounding areas.

We like that their website is highly versatile to the needs of the client since its features are integrated specifically to help them find the best music instructor for them wherein there will be preliminary lessons held to see if both the client and the teacher can work together well.

Furthermore, their lessons are also customized to the needs of the clients and to better their learning environment by holding at-home and in-studio classes according to their convenience.

Note though that their services are priced per student and no group bundles are currently available along with additional fees should they need to travel to the students’ place.

Overall, with their innovative approach to teaching, passionate and amicable personnel, and an excellent variety of instruments, we highly recommend them to clients looking to forward or learn their desired instrument should they be at the beginner levels or intermediate levels.

Pros

  • Innovative and personalized approach
  • Accommodates lessons in various places
  • Flexible sessions

Cons

  • Limited group lesson packages
